.People either rave about Venezuela or rant about it. Venezuela has a controversial President, Hugo Chavez, whose anti-American rhetoric has frightened off a great number of cruisers including the buddy boat we wanted to travel with. His successor, Maduro, is even worse and the situation has deteriorated since we contemplated going . However, the out islands of Venezuela remain popular with many cruisers. Cruisers always seem to have intense feelings but this doesn't give much guidance. Many people stay during hurricane season although you must stay in a marina which will be carefully guarded against the rampant crime.
