Rigging the whisker pole

Port side rigging

port guy serves as aft downhaul. It is a green line with snap hook at fwd end. this gives control over the pole (moving it aft and down) from the cockpit

Steps to rigging the after guy (port side):

  • Clip hook at fwd ring
  • Lead aft over top of lifeline outside of stanchions
  • to block clipped to deck ring fwd of gate.
  • from block, lead inside stanchions through top sheave of turning block.
  • cleat bitter end at cleat just aft of jib winch

stbd guy serves as fwd downhaul. It is a blue line with snap hook at fwd end. this gives control over the pole (pulling it forward and down) from the cockpit

Steps to rigging the fore guy (stbd side):

  • Clip hook at fwd ring
  • Lead aft (inside of stanchion to permanent deck-mounted block
  • inside stanchions to block clipped to deck ring between first and 2nd staunchion fwd of gate.
  • lead aft to top sheave of turning block on top sheave
  • cleat bitter end at cleat just aft of jib winch
Applying the caulk (without creating voids) requires a sure hand
Pole is jaws up holding jib sheet

At the outboard pole end:

  • Pole lift (yellow line at mast) pullling inboard and up
  • Jib sheet through pole jaws (can be released at base of pole)
  • fore and after guy clipped to ring on pole (make sure they don't cross)
Dampened Irish potato smoothes surface
Mat protects deck from pole end

  • Pole is rested on mat where fore guy, after guy and topping lift are attached
  • after guy led over lifeline to aft part of ring
  • fore guy led over middle lifeline and back inboard over top lifeline to forward part of ring
